New Delhi, April 23, 2024: In a ceremony marked by national pride, President Droupadi Murmu presented the highly coveted Padma Awards to 66 distinguished individuals today. Held at the magnificent Rashtrapati Bhawan, the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I saw three individuals take home the prestigious Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor.
The ceremony, graced by eminent personalities including Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, and Union Home Minister cum Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah, showcased the nation’s acknowledgment of outstanding achievements.
But who are these remarkable individuals?
The Padma Awards recognize exceptional contributions in various fields, including art, social work, science, public service, and more. This year, eight individuals received the Padma Bhushan and a further 55 were conferred the Padma Shri.
Padma Vibhushan Awardees:
- Shri Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu: Recognized for his exemplary contributions in Public Affairs from Andhra Pradesh.
- Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak (Posthumous): Honored for his remarkable Social Work legacy from Bihar.
- Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam: Acknowledged for her profound impact on Art, hailing from Tamil Nadu.
Padma Bhushan Awardees:
- Shri Mithun Chakraborty: Celebrated for his significant contributions to Art from West Bengal.
- Dr. Sitaram Jindal: Recognized for his outstanding Social Work endeavors from Karnataka.
- Dr. Young-Way Liu: Acknowledged for his remarkable contributions to Trade & Industry, representing Taiwan.
- Shri Ram Naik: Honored for his noteworthy Public Affairs services from Maharashtra.
- Prof. (Dr.) Tejas Madhusudan Patel: Celebrated for his contributions to Medicine from Gujarat.
- Shri Dattatray Ambadas Mayaloo alias Rajdutt: Acknowledged for his distinguished contributions to Art from Maharashtra.
- Dr. Chandreshwar Prasad Thakur: Recognized for his significant contributions to Medicine from Bihar.
- Smt. Usha Uthup: Celebrated for her exceptional contributions to Art from West Bengal.
Padma Shri Awardees:
The list of Padma Shri Awardees includes 55 individuals from diverse domains, spanning Art, Social Work, Sports, Science & Engineering, Literature & Education, Medicine, and more. Noteworthy mentions include Shri Rohan Bopanna for Sports from Karnataka, Dr. Narayan Chakrabarty for Science & Engineering from West Bengal, and Dr. C. R. Chandrashekar for Medicine from Karnataka, among others.

Following the investiture ceremony, Union Home Minister cum Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah, along with other Union Ministers, hosted a dinner for the Padma Awardees, providing an opportunity for interaction and felicitation.
Tomorrow, the Padma Awardees will pay homage at the National War Memorial and visit Rashtrapati Bhawan and Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, marking a continuation of their engagement with the nation’s heritage and spirit.
