CBSE Notification on Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge 2023: Fostering Mathematical Competencies in Students

Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge 2023 nurtures students’ mathematical prowess, offering a platform to showcase skills and practical applications.

In its continuous effort to enhance the application of mathematics in daily life and promote mathematical competencies among students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the commencement of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge – 2023 (AGC). This unique challenge aims to assess and develop students’ ability to apply mathematical concepts to real-life situations. Through this initiative, CBSE aims to foster a deeper understanding of mathematics and its practical applications.

Levels and Stages of the Challenge

The Aryabhata Ganit Challenge is divided into two levels:

Level 1: School Level Competition

In this stage, schools affiliated with CBSE will conduct the competition within their premises. CBSE will provide a question paper for this level through its portal. Schools can download the question paper and organize the examination. This level is open to all students of classes VIII to X in CBSE-affiliated schools.

Level 2: National Level Competition

The second level is a national-level competition that will be conducted by CBSE as a computer-based test. Only the top three students from each affiliated school who have excelled in the first stage will be eligible to participate in this round.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Level 1 (School Level Competition): All students of classes VIII to X in CBSE-affiliated schools are eligible to participate.
  • Level 2: Only the top three students from each affiliated school who have performed exceptionally well in the first stage are eligible.

Areas of Assessment

The AGC will assess students’ competencies in various mathematical content areas, including:

  • Number sense and Number System
  • Algebra
  • Mensuration
  • Geometry and Spatial Sense
  • Data Analysis and Probability
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • Conceptual Understanding
  • Logical Reasoning and Analytical thinking
  • Problem Solving skills
  • Strategic approach
  • Visualization and Mathematization
  • Creative and Abstract thinking

Test Format and Scoring

Both levels of the test will consist of multiple-choice questions and will have a duration of one hour. The total weightage for the test is 40 marks, and there will be no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Process of Conduct and Selection

  1. First Stage:
    • Schools can apply for the first stage through the provided link before August 25, 2023.
    • A question paper with an answer key will be made available to registered schools from August 28 to September 5, 2023.
    • Registered schools will conduct the test and identify the top three students.
    • Schools will register these top three students by paying an online fee of Rs.900/- from September 15 to September 21, 2023.
  2. Second Stage:
    • A computer-based test for the top three students from each school will be conducted by CBSE on October 3, 2023.
    • Only schools that have completed the first stage will be eligible for the second stage.

Fees and Recognition

  • Participation in the first level (School Level) is free of charge.
  • A fee of Rs. 900/- per school will be charged for participation in the second level.
  • CBSE will recognize and appreciate 10 schools from each region with the highest student participation in the first stage.
  • All schools are encouraged to motivate their students to participate in the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge, and students’ performance will be acknowledged in their portfolios.
