CBSE Issued Circular to Celebrate International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2024

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released Circular No: Acad-46/2024 on 14th June 2024, addressing all heads of schools affiliated with CBSE regarding the celebration of International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 21st June 2024.

Significance of International Day of Yoga

The United Nations has recognized 21st June as International Day of Yoga. This annual event aims to raise awareness about the many benefits of practicing yoga, which promotes overall health, well-being, and a sustainable lifestyle. In previous years, this day has seen global participation, spreading the message of yoga’s significance worldwide.

Guidelines for Schools

The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, has prepared a ‘Common Yoga Protocol’ Handbook, which can be accessed here. Additionally, videos demonstrating the Common Yoga Protocol in 22 Indian languages are available here.

To celebrate IDY 2024, CBSE encourages schools to organize the following activities:

  1. Yoga Workshops and Seminars: Conduct sessions for students and teachers, promoting the practice and adoption of yoga.
  2. Mass Yoga Demonstration: Arrange large-scale yoga demonstrations on 21st June.
  3. Quiz and Essay Competitions: Host contests with yoga as the theme to spark interest among students.
  4. Participation in MyGov Competitions: Motivate students and staff to participate in IDY competitions organized by the Ministry of Ayush on the MyGov platform, such as the Jingle Contest and the PM Yoga Awards.
  5. Publication of Yoga Articles: Feature articles about yoga and IDY in the school’s e-newsletter, bulletin, magazine, etc.
  6. Yoga Quiz: Participate in the Yoga Quiz organized by the Ministry of Ayush in collaboration with MyGov, accessible here.

Implementation and Reporting

Schools should adhere to the guidelines and instructions issued by their respective State/UT governments regarding summer vacations and other regulations. After conducting the activities, schools are requested to submit a brief report, including 2-3 photographs, through the following link.
