🌐 International

Indian-Bangladesh Collaboration on IT Park in Chattogram: The Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, and Bangladesh’s Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, jointly initiated the construction of a Knowledge Park in Chattogram. Funded by India with a concessional Line of Credit amounting to nearly US$ 250 million, this IT park aims to bolster economic and technological ties between the two nations. The initiative seeks to promote the IT industry and skill development, contributing to job creation and training across the 12 planned IT parks in Bangladesh.

Cultural Exchange Through Sports in Nepal: During India’s National Sports Day celebrations, ‘Aao Khele Khel,’ an event organized by the Indian Embassy in Nepal in collaboration with the National Police Training Academy, Kathmandu, showcased indigenous sports and fostered cultural exchanges between the two neighboring countries. The event revived traditional games such as Lagori, Kho-Kho, and Tug of War. Notable figures from Nepal participated, enhancing cultural interactions among students from various schools in Kathmandu Valley.

Indian Air Force in Multinational Exercise BRIGHT STAR-23: The Indian Air Force (IAF) is actively participating in Exercise BRIGHT STAR-23, a multilateral tri-service exercise hosted in Egypt. Running from August 27 to September 16, 2023, this exercise demonstrates India’s commitment to global defense cooperation and joint operational capabilities. Contingents from the United States, Saudi Arabia, Greece, and Qatar are also involved. The IAF’s involvement underscores its diplomatic role in fostering peace and stability on the international stage.

Indian Men’s Hockey Team in Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier: The Indian Men’s Hockey Team is all set for the Men’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier taking place in Salalah, Oman. Scheduled from August 29 to September 2, 2023, the team’s opening match is against Bangladesh. Placed in the Elite Pool, they will compete against teams from Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan, Oman, and Bangladesh. The tournament offers a pathway to secure a berth in the 2024 FIH Hockey 5s World Cup.

PM Narendra Modi’s Rozgar Mela: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to distribute over 51,000 appointment letters to newly recruited individuals on August 28, 2023, through a video conference. The initiative, known as Rozgar Mela, is held across 45 locations nationwide. The Ministry of Home Affairs is recruiting personnel for various central armed police forces (CAPFs) and Delhi Police. The move aligns with the PM’s commitment to employment generation, empowering citizens, and fostering national development.

Chandrayaan-3 Mission and Lunar Exploration: The Chandrayaan-3 mission, aimed at gathering vital information about the Moon’s atmosphere, soil, and minerals, continues to progress successfully. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Space, confirmed that the Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover are meeting mission objectives as planned. The mission’s science payloads will assess lunar surface features, thermal properties, plasma environment, seismic activities, and meteor impacts. To engage the public and students, ISRO is launching a nationwide awareness campaign following the Chandrayaan-3 Moon Landing’s live telecast.

Sri Lanka’s Karnataka Cultural Festival: Sri Lanka hosted its inaugural Karnataka cultural festival, organized by the International Cultural Council of India in collaboration with Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and M.E Global Peace Foundation. The event featured over 30 Karnataka artists showcasing diverse performances, including dances, folk songs, poems, ballet, and puppet shows. This festival celebrated Karnataka’s cultural heritage while strengthening the cultural bonds between India and Sri Lanka.

India’s Soft Landing on Moon: In a historic achievement, India successfully executed a soft landing on the Moon’s south pole through the Chandrayaan-3 mission. The Vikram Lander touched down near the Moon’s south pole, making India the fourth country globally to achieve this feat. This accomplishment underscores India’s growing prowess in space exploration, joining the ranks of the United States, China, and Russia.

Recognition of Ratan Tata as Udyog Ratna: Renowned industrialist Ratan Tata was honored with the first ‘Udyog Ratna’ award by the Government of Maharashtra. This recognition highlights Tata’s significant contributions to the industrial and economic growth of the state. The combined revenue of Tata companies in the financial year 2021-22 was $128 billion.

Nitin Gadkari Launches India NCAP: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari launched the India New Car Assessment Program (India NCAP) in New Delhi. This initiative aims to enhance road safety by raising vehicle safety standards for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes in India. The program, commencing on October 1, 2023, will be based on the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 197.

Sachin Tendulkar Designated as National Icon: India’s cricket legend, Sachin Tendulkar, has been designated as a National Icon by the Election Commission of India. This designation is intended to encourage greater voter participation in the electoral process. The memorandum of understanding was signed for a three-year period, reflecting Tendulkar’s influential role in inspiring citizens’ engagement.

New Chairperson for National Green Tribunal: Justice Prakash Srivastava, former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). He succeeds Justice AK Goel. The NGT plays a crucial role in the adjudication of matters related to environmental protection, promoting sustainable practices across India.
