2. Asian Para Games in China

  • The fourth Asian Para Games are set to be held in Hangzhou, China, from October 22 to 28, 2023.
  • India will be represented by a 446-member contingent, including 303 athletes, with 191 male and 112 female participants.
  • In the recently concluded Asian Games, India secured fourth place with 107 medals.

3. Defense Ministry Signs Agreement with Cochin Shipyard Limited

  • The Defense Ministry has signed an agreement with Cochin Shipyard Limited for the mid-life upgrade of INS Beas at a cost of Rs 313.42 crore.
  • After the upgrade, INS Beas will rejoin the Indian Navy by 2026.

6. EV-Ready India Dashboard

  • Union Minister RK Singh launched the EV-Ready India dashboard.
  • The dashboard is a free digital platform that offers real-time assistance on electric vehicle-related matters.
  • It projects a 45 percent increase in electric vehicles by 2030.

7. Same-Sex Marriage Petition Rejected

  • A five-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, rejected a petition demanding the legalization of same-sex marriage.

8. Green Energy Corridor Phase-II

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II project for a 13 GW Renewable Energy Project in Ladakh.
  • The project is aimed to be completed by FY 2029-30 with a total estimated cost of Rs. 20,773.70 crore.
  • This project will contribute to India’s target of 500 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuels by 2030.

9. Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Rabi Crops

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved increased Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all mandated Rabi Crops for the Marketing Season 2024-25.
  • The highest increase in MSP was approved for lentils (masur) at Rs. 425 per quintal, followed by rapeseed & mustard at Rs. 200 per quintal.
  • This move aims to ensure remunerative prices to farmers and incentivize crop diversification, reducing dependence on imports.
