CBDT Extends Deadline for Tax-Exempt Trust Registrations by June 30, 2024

New Delhi, April 26, 2024: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued a notification extending the deadline for filing registration forms (Form 10A and 10AB) for trusts, institutions, and funds seeking tax exemptions. The new deadline is June 30, 2024.

This extension provides relief to organizations that faced difficulties meeting the previous deadline of September 30, 2023.

Who Benefits from the Extension

  • Trusts, institutions, and funds seeking income tax exemptions under specific sections of the Income Tax Act, 1961 (sections 10(23C), 12A, 80G, and 35).
  • Existing trusts that missed the deadline to file Form 10A for Assessment Year (AY) 2022-23 and obtained provisional registration as a new entity. These entities can now surrender the provisional registration and apply for registration under Form 10A as an existing organization by June 30, 2024.
  • Trusts whose applications for re-registration were rejected due to late filing or incorrect section code can submit a fresh application in Form 10AB by the extended deadline.

How to File

Applications (Form 10A/10AB) must be submitted electronically through the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal.
