Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a notification urging schools across India to participate in the innovative “Jal Doot” program. This program, an initiative under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain campaign, empowers students to become active participants in water conservation efforts.
Why Students?
The Jal Doot program recognizes the immense potential of students (classes VIII to XII) to be changemakers. These young minds, brimming with energy and enthusiasm, can significantly influence community behavior towards water conservation.
Learning from Success: The Assam Model
The JalDoot Programme, pioneered by Jal Jeevan Mission Assam, serves as a successful model for nationwide implementation. Here’s a glimpse into its working:
- JalShala Workshops: Students undergo interactive workshops to gain knowledge and skills related to water conservation.
- Jal Doot Activities: Students participate in 24 gamified activities, fostering a sense of fun and achievement while learning valuable lessons.
- Community Outreach: Equipped with newfound knowledge, students act as ambassadors, spreading awareness about safe drinking water, water quality conservation, and sanitation practices within their communities, schools, and households.
- Jal Doot Bot: A dedicated WhatsApp chatbot provides constant support, guidance, and activity reminders to Jaldoots.
- Recognition and Rewards: The program motivates students through leaderboards, Changemaker profiles, and various recognition avenues.
Call to Action for Schools
Schools are encouraged to actively participate in the Jal Doot program. By integrating this program into their activities, schools can:
- Empower Students: Equip students with the knowledge and skills to become responsible water warriors.
- Promote Sustainability: Foster a culture of water conservation within the school community and beyond.
- Enhance Learning: Bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world challenges, promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills in students.
