The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has consistently strived to ignite scientific curiosity and nurture a spirit of innovation among young learners. To achieve this noble goal, CBSE is gearing up to host the CBSE Science Exhibition for the academic session 2023-24. This exhibition is not just an event; it’s a platform that empowers students to construct knowledge by connecting fresh ideas with established concepts. In this article, we’ll delve into the details of this exciting initiative and how it fosters scientific development.

Unveiling the 2023-24 Theme and Sub-Themes

The CBSE Science Exhibition revolves around the theme “Science and Technology for Society.” This theme is broad and encompasses a wide range of sub-themes that students can explore. The sub-themes for the 2023-24 exhibition are:

  1. Health: Exploring innovations in the healthcare sector.
  2. LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment): Promoting a sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle.
  3. Agriculture: Innovations in farming and agriculture.
  4. Communication and Transport: Advancements in communication and transportation technology.
  5. Computational Thinking: Leveraging computational skills for problem-solving.

The diversity of these sub-themes offers students ample opportunities to delve into areas that captivate their interest.

Categories and Eligibility

The CBSE Science Exhibition is open to all CBSE students, categorized into two groups:

  1. Category I – Junior students of Classes 6-8
  2. Category II – Senior students of Classes 9-11

This categorization ensures that students can compete against peers of similar age and academic level, enhancing the overall fairness of the competition.

Guidelines for Participation

For schools interested in participating in the CBSE Science Exhibition, adherence to certain guidelines is crucial:

  1. Registration: Schools must register online and submit their projects or exhibits between 10th October 2023 to 30th October 2023. Registration is available at CBSE’s dedicated portal. The last date for registration is 30th October 2023, and bank payment confirmation should be completed by 31st October 2023.
  2. Registration Fee: Indian schools are required to pay a registration fee of Rs. 3000 per registering team, while foreign schools should contact the respective Foreign Regional Venue for fee details.
  3. Team Composition: Each school team will consist of a maximum of two students from the same category and one mentor science teacher.
  4. Project Details: Once registered, the names of the students, the mentor teacher, the sub-theme, and project title cannot be changed.
  5. Online Submission: A unique login credential will be provided to each registered team for online project submission. Projects may include investigation-based studies, the application of scientific principles, or innovative problem-solving approaches.
  6. Environmentally Friendly Exhibits: Care should be taken to use eco-friendly materials in the preparation of exhibits.
  7. Early Registration: To avoid the last-minute rush, schools are advised to complete registration and fee payment within 12 days of the circular’s issuance.

Assessment Criteria and Regional Exhibitions

Before reaching the regional and national levels, the entries will undergo a stringent screening process. A team of experts will assess the exhibits based on several criteria, including creativity, originality, scientific approach, technical skills, educational value, cost-effectiveness, and presentation.

Projects will be evaluated based on several criteria:

  • Creativity and Imagination: 20%
  • Originality and Innovativeness: 15%
  • Scientific Thought and Approach: 15%
  • Technical Skills and Workmanship: 15%
  • Educational Value and Utility: 15%
  • Economic Viability and Portability: 10%
  • Presentation Effectiveness: 10%

The regional exhibitions will be held at various venues across the country, with details being communicated to individual schools.

Global Participation

CBSE has extended a hand to foreign schools as well, with regional venues established in several countries. Schools from clusters including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and others can participate, with a focus on providing a global platform for young innovators.

Recognitions and Rewards

The top ten exhibits from each regional venue will qualify for the National Level Exhibition. The selected best entries at the national level will receive recognition and rewards for their exceptional efforts. Additionally, these winners may have the opportunity to participate in other renowned science exhibitions, including the Rashtriya Bal Vaigyaanik Pradarshani and the Science Exhibition organized by the Initiative for Research & Innovation in Science (IRIS).

All heads of schools affiliated with CBSE are encouraged to motivate their students to participate in the CBSE Science Exhibition 2023-24. It’s a platform that not only promotes scientific curiosity but also nurtures innovation and creativity among young minds.
