New Delhi, October 11, 2023 – In a recent development, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has issued a circular providing crucial information about the conduct of Practical Examinations, Project Assessments, and Internal Assessments for Classes X and XII in winter-bound schools for the session 2023-24. This decision has been made in consideration of the unique challenges faced by schools in areas affected by harsh winter weather.
The official communication, dated 10th October 2023, lays out the detailed schedule and guidelines that will be followed for these assessments. As per CBSE’s Examination Bye-Laws and Scheme of Studies, the Practical Examinations, Project Assessments, and Internal Assessments for the session 2023-24 were initially scheduled to commence from 1st January 2024 for all affiliated schools in India and abroad.
However, recognizing the practical difficulties faced by schools situated in winter-bound regions during the month of January, the CBSE has taken a proactive step to adjust the examination timeline. As a result, the Practical Examinations, Project Assessments, and Internal Assessments for both classes X and XII for winter-bound schools will now be conducted from 14th November 2023 to 14th December 2023.
To ensure the successful conduct of these assessments, the CBSE has outlined a series of actions to be taken by the affiliated schools:
- Finalize Candidate List: Schools are advised to prepare the final list of candidates and ensure that no student whose name has not been submitted in the online List of Candidates (LOC) to the Board is allowed to sit for these practical examinations, projects, or internal assessments.
- Contact the Regional Office: Schools should get in touch with their respective Regional Office for the appointment of external examiners and observers to oversee the assessment process.
- Timely Completion and Dispatch: Schools must ensure the timely completion of examinations and dispatch of answer books to the regional offices.
It’s essential to note that these revised dates and instructions are exclusively for winter-bound schools and do not apply to schools with regular sessions. The CBSE will issue a separate circular for regular session schools.
This proactive approach by the CBSE reflects its commitment to maintaining high academic standards while also considering the unique challenges faced by schools in different climatic conditions. By adjusting the assessment schedule for winter-bound areas, the CBSE aims to provide a more conducive environment for students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge effectively.
