1. Rise in World Military Expenditure

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the military expenditure of countries globally has increased by 3.7%, and the United States is the top spender. India ranked fourth with $81.4 billion expenditure in Defence Sector. Experts say that this rise in expenses reflects the increasing insecurity levels across the world. Russia-Ukraine Conflict is one of the significant reasons for high military spending.

2. World Malaria Day 2023

World Malaria Day is celebrated on April 25 to spread awareness about the severe disease and techniques to prevent it. This year’s theme is “Time to deliver Zero Malaria: invest, innovate, implement” as announced by the World Health Organization (WHO). The disease is more prevalent in humid regions like Africa, and one can detect it through symptoms like chills, fever, diarrhea, body pain, etc.

3. Operation Kaveri Evacuates Indians

Operation Kaveri was launched to evacuate more than 3,000 citizens trapped in Sudan during the civil war between the Army and Para-military. The death toll was more than 400, and over 3,700 people were injured during air strikes and gunfire. Pictures of the evacuation were shared on Twitter by the spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry, Arindam Bagchi.

4. New Features in eShram Portal

The Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Bhupinder Singh, announced new additional features to the eShram portal, including easy registration of workers and access to employment opportunities, pension schemes, apprenticeships, skilling, etc. The portal has already registered 28.64 crore unorganized workers up to March 10, 2023.

5. Indian Performance in Archery World Cup 2023

In the Archery World Cup 2023 held in Antalya, Turkey, the Indian men’s team won a silver medal, and Dhiraj Bommdevara won a bronze medal. The team comprised Atanu Das, Tarundeep Rai, and Dhiraj Bommdevara. The match results were 4-5, and later Dhiraj defeated Ilfat Abdullin.
