Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff, flew the Hindustan Turbo Trainer Aircraft – 40 (HTT-40) Basic Trainer Aircraft in Bengaluru. Manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), this indigenous aircraft is designed to meet the training needs of the Indian Armed Forces.
Impressive Features
The HTT-40 is a fully aerobatic aircraft with a four-bladed turbo-prop engine, a modern glass cockpit, advanced avionics, and safety features including a zero-zero ejection seat. It has a maximum speed of 450 kilometers per hour and a service ceiling of six kilometers.
Strengthening Self-Reliance
The IAF has a contract with HAL for 70 HTT-40 aircraft, with induction starting in September 2025. This aircraft will enhance pilot training, and a Full Mission Simulator will be included to supplement aerial training. This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat‘ for greater self-reliance in defense and aviation.
