Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0: Accelerating Garbage-Free Cities and Sustainable Sanitation

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) conducted a workshop to review and accelerate the implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0). The mission aims to make urban India garbage-free, improve sanitation facilities, and manage wastewater effectively. The first phase of the mission achieved 100% Open Defecation Free status in urban India. The second phase focuses on sustainable sanitation, with many cities certified ODF+ and ODF++ and implementing waste management practices. The workshop discussed various projects and initiatives under SBM-U 2.0, including solid waste management, used water management, and legacy waste remediation. The goal is to achieve a garbage-free rating of 3 stars for all cities by 2026 and promote waste-to-wealth and circular economy practices.

MeitY Inaugurates Product Design Centre and Launches Grain-Ex System for Quality Detection

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) inaugurated a Product Design Centre (PDC) at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Kolkata. Over 450 Lambani women artisans participated, using GI-tagged Sandur Lambani embroidery. The project supports the PM’s ‘LiFe’ campaign and the Culture Working Group’s objective of an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

Lambani embroidery is a traditional craft in Karnataka, providing livelihoods to women and preserving cultural heritage. The display symbolizes unity, diversity, and interconnectedness among cultures, promoting dialogue and understanding. Sandur Kushal Kala Kendra (SKKK) works to revive traditional crafts and has gained recognition for Lambani craft, receiving the UNESCO Seal of Excellence and the GI tag.

Steady Growth in Direct Tax Collections for FY 2023-24: Provisional Figures Show Promising Results

Provisional figures of Direct Tax collections for FY 2023-24 show steady growth, with gross collections at Rs. 5.17 lakh crore, a 14.65% increase compared to last year. Net collections stand at Rs. 4.75 lakh crore, 15.87% higher than last year. Refunds issued from April to July 2023 are Rs. 42,000 crore, 2.55% higher than the previous year.

Government Securities Auction: 7.06% GS 2028, 7.26% GS 2033, and 7.30% GS 2053 for Sale

The Government of India plans to sell (re-issue) three types of government securities through auctions conducted by the Reserve Bank of India. The securities include “7.06% GS 2028,” “7.26% GS 2033,” and “7.30% GS 2053.” The auctions will take place on July 14, 2023, and the government will have the option to retain additional subscriptions. Both competitive and non-competitive bids should be submitted electronically. The auction results will be announced on July 14, 2023, with payment by successful bidders scheduled for July 17, 2023. The securities will be eligible for “When Issued” trading.
