The World Day Against Child Labour is observed on June 12 to raise awareness and empower children to escape from child labor. Cyclone Biparjoy Alert: IMD Warns of Severe Storm for Saurashtra & Kutch Coast
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert for the extremely severe cyclonic storm “Biparjoy” over the east-central Arabian Sea. The storm is expected to cross the Saurashtra and Kutch regions, as well as the adjoining coast of Pakistan, by noon on the 15th of June. The alert includes districts in Gujarat and advises the fishing community, mariners, and stakeholders to take necessary precautions. Indian Coast Guard units are also sending advisories to ships at sea.
Massive Participation in G20 Education Events: Over 2.33 Crore Engaged in JanBhagidari, Pune Meeting Set for June
Over 2.33 crore participants, including 1.57 crore students, 25.46 lakh teachers, and 51.10 lakh people, took part in JanBhagidari events leading up to the 4th Education Working Group Meeting of G20. The 4th Education Working Group and Education Ministerial meeting will be held in Pune, India, from 19th to 22nd June. The Ministry of Education is organizing a series of events, including a seminar and a national conference, to address foundational literacy and numeracy.
The conference aims to discuss teaching approaches, capacity building, and training of teachers. An exhibition showcasing innovative practices in education will also take place. The Ministry of Education has launched the ‘Shiksha Sankalp’ pledge to promote education and lifelong learning, with over 1.5 lakh people having taken the pledge so far.
Vigyan-Vidushi 2023: Bridging the Gender Gap in Physics with a Unique Summer Program at HBCSE Mumbai
Vigyan-Vidushi – 2023, a program to address gender balance in Physics at the doctoral level, has begun at HBCSE in Mumbai. India and UAE successfully concluded the 1st Meeting of the Joint Committee of the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Government Imposes Stock Limits on Wheat and Rice to Stabilize Prices: Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution
The Indian government has imposed stock limits on wheat for traders, retailers, big chain retailers, and processors until March 31, 2024, to manage food security and prevent hoarding. Stock limits vary for each entity, and they must declare their stock positions and update them regularly. Additionally, 15 LMT of wheat will be offloaded from the central pool stock under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS), and the quantity of rice to be offloaded will be decided soon. These measures aim to stabilize the prices of essential commodities and ensure their availability in the country.
Government Securities Auction: 7.06% GS 2028, 7.26% GS 2033, and New GS 2053 for Sale
The Indian government is conducting an auction for the sale of three government securities: “7.06% GS 2028,” “7.26% GS 2033,” and “New GS 2053.” The auctions will be carried out by the Reserve Bank of India on June 16, 2023. The government has set notified amounts for each security and may retain additional subscriptions. Both competitive and non-competitive bids can be submitted electronically, and the results will be announced on June 16, 2023, with payment due on June 19, 2023. The securities will be eligible for “When Issued” trading as per RBI guidelines.

New Exchange Rate for South African Rand: Updated Customs Act Notification

May 2023 Retail Inflation Hits 25-Month Low at 4.25%: CPI Report
Retail inflation based on CPI reached a 25-month low of 4.25% in May 2023, down from 4.7% in April. This decrease is primarily due to lower food and energy prices.
