   • Integration of Child Helpline with ERSS-112: Strengthening Child Protection Services Nationwide
     • The government has decided to integrate the Child Helpline with the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112) as part of the “One Nation One Helpline” vision. This integration aims to ensure responsible and responsive administration for children, aid in repatriation and restoration of children in vulnerable situations, and strengthen the service delivery structures under the Juvenile Justice Act. The transition is underway, with the Childline being taken over in nine states and union territories. The Child Helpline will be operated in coordination with state and district functionaries and will be linked to the ERSS-112 helpline. The Ministry has issued guidelines and standard operating procedures for the implementation of Child Helpline services across the country.
   • ECI Publishes Draft Delimitation Proposal for Assam: Seats Reserved for SCs and STs Increased
     • The Election Commission of India has released a draft proposal for delimitation of Assembly and Parliamentary Constituencies in Assam. The proposal retains 126 Assembly seats and 14 Lok Sabha seats. The draft includes reserved seats for Scheduled Tribes (19 Assembly seats and 2 Parliamentary seats) and Scheduled Castes (9 Assembly seats and 1 Parliamentary seat). The proposal is based on the 2001 Census data, and the Commission will conduct a public hearing in July 2023. The draft considers factors such as population density, geographic features, and administrative units in the delimitation process. Various suggestions and objections were received during the Commission’s visit to Assam earlier this year.
   • NHPC Shines at ICOLD 2023: Leading Hydropower Developer Presents Groundbreaking Papers on Dam Safety and Rehabilitation
     • NHPC, India’s largest hydropower development organization, participated in the 91st Annual Meeting of ICOLD 2023 in Sweden. They presented papers on dam management, safety, seepage control, seismic aspects, and rehabilitation. NHPC showcased their capabilities in a pavilion and shared experiences on sediment management. The delegation was led by the Director (Finance) and Director (Projects) of NHPC, along with other senior officers.
   • Senior IAS Officer Amit Agrawal Takes Charge as CEO of UIDAI
     • Senior IAS officer Amit Agrawal has become the CEO of UIDAI, assuming charge on Monday. He has held significant positions in the government and was previously serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Agrawal is a 1993 batch IAS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre and is a graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
   • EPFO Adds 17.2k New Members in April, Majority in 18-25 Age Group
     • EPFO added 17.2k net members in April, an increase from 13.4k in March. About 8.47k new members joined the social security coverage for the first time. The majority of the new members, 54.15%, were in the 18-25 age group, indicating that they were first-time job seekers joining the organized sector workforce.

   • International Day of Yoga: PM Modi to Lead Celebrations at UN Headquarters in New York
     • The International Day of Yoga is being celebrated worldwide today, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Over 180 countries are expected to participate, showcasing their dedication to yoga. Prime Minister Modi expressed pride in yoga’s global reach, emphasizing its message of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
   • UAE’s Port Rashid Hosts Ocean Ring of Yoga: Celebrating International Day of Yoga with INS Brahmaputra
     • UAE’s Port Rashid in Dubai will host the Ocean Ring of Yoga event, organized by the Indian Navy and Merchant ships. The International Day of Yoga celebrations will take place at Mina Rashid, symbolizing the strong relationship between India and the UAE. INS Brahmaputra will bring 200 sailors to actively participate in the event. The inclusive nature of yoga and its ability to connect people globally will be highlighted.
   • Oman Makes History as First Foreign Government to Promote Country Through Yoga
     • The Indian Embassy in Oman collaborated with the Government of Oman to produce a video promoting the country through yoga. This marks the first time a foreign government has used yoga for such promotion. The video showcases yoga enthusiasts from different countries performing poses in scenic locations around Muscat. With a significant Indian community in Oman, yoga has gained popularity in recent years. The Indian Embassy has actively promoted yoga through events and initiatives, including a five-month-long journey leading up to the International Day of Yoga 2023.    • Strengthening Bilateral Ties: India-Iraq Joint Commission Meeting Focuses on Investments, Trade, and Cooperation
     • India hosted the 18th India-Iraq Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) in New Delhi. Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs, highlighted the need to strengthen relations between the two countries in various sectors, including oil and gas. The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister expressed the desire for Indian investment in Iraq. Both countries agreed to expand their partnership beyond buyer-seller relations and cover investments, trade, and EPC services. Discussions also included water resource management and healthcare cooperation, with Iraq thanking India for its support. The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol.
   • BIS Implements Mandatory License for 24 Footwear Products from July 1, 2023
     • The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will require a license for 24 footwear products starting from July 1, 2023. The license is mandatory for manufacturing, importing, or selling these products under quality control orders. The standards for footwear products are developed in consultation with various stakeholders to ensure quality and authenticity. The government has announced a reduced testing charge for certified start-ups and micro industrial units. Certain manufacturers have been given an extended compliance deadline. The BIS has introduced measures to include more stakeholders and launched an online forum called Manak Rath for standards club students.

   • India vs. Pakistan: SAFF Championship 2023 Clash in Bengaluru
     • Indian men’s football team to face Pakistan in SAFF Championship 2023 in Bengaluru. The match will be held at Sree Kanteerava Stadium. Eight teams are participating, divided into two groups. India is in Group A with Kuwait, Nepal, and Pakistan. Group B consists of Lebanon, Maldives, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. India is the highest-ranked team in Group A. The group stage will be followed by the semi-finals and the final. India has won the SAFF Championship eight times.
   • Fit India Quiz State Rounds: Exciting Journey Towards Fitness and Knowledge Continues!
     • The State Round episodes of the 2nd Fit India Quiz will continue until July 2023, with a total of 84 episodes being streamed on Fit India’s Facebook and YouTube handles. The quiz aims to promote fitness among school children and is supported by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. The quiz has seen a massive participation of over 61,000 students from schools across India, offering a cash prize of ₹3.25 crore. It provides an opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge in sports and fitness on a national level.
