   • Government Extends Timeline for Ethanol Projects, Sets New Record in Ethanol Production Capacity
     • The Indian government extends the timeline for disbursement of loans and completion of ethanol projects until September 30, 2023. Ethanol production capacity reaches a record high of 1,244 crore liters. Distilleries supply over 310 crore liters of ethanol to oil companies by June 11, 2023. The extended timeline for ethanol projects aims to boost the agricultural economy, reduce fossil fuel dependency, save foreign exchange, and cut air pollution. The government provides financial assistance and interest subvention for the loans. India aims to increase ethanol production and supply for the Ethanol Blended with Petrol (EBP) Program. The target is to achieve 20% blending by 2025.
   • EPFO Extends Deadline for Pension Options and Wage Details Submission
     • EPFO allows employees 15 days to submit pension options on higher wages, while employers have three more months to upload wage details online. The online facility was extended to accommodate pensioners’ applications, with 16.06 lakh applications received so far. Eligible pensioners facing issues can lodge grievances through EPFiGMS. Employers’ requests to extend the deadline for wage details submission have been granted, with a new deadline of 30.09.2023.
   • Power Ministry Launches UTPRERAK: Center of Excellence for Energy-Efficient Technologies in Indian Industry
     • The Ministry of Power in India has established UTPRERAK, a Centre of Excellence to accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient technologies in the country’s industry. The center aims to improve energy efficiency, provide training to energy professionals, contribute to national energy policy formulation, and develop innovative solutions for energy efficiency. The Union Minister of State for Power emphasized the importance of advanced technologies in achieving India’s development goals and competitiveness in the global market.    • Engineering Services Examination 2022 Results: 33 Candidates Recommended for Vacancies
     • The Engineering Services Examination, 2022 results were announced, recommending 213 candidates for appointment.    • Arab Youth Survey: India Emerges as Stronger Ally than US, Reveals Report
     • India’s influence as a strong ally in the Arab world has surpassed that of the United States, according to the 15th annual Arab Youth Survey conducted by ASDA’A BCW. The survey revealed that 73% of Arab youth see India as a ‘strong ally’ or ‘somewhat of an ally,’ just slightly ahead of the US at 72%. India’s alliance is particularly strong among UAE nationals, with 98% considering India an ally. The survey also explored other ally preferences and opinions on US involvement in the Middle East.
   • ADB Provides $400 Million Loan for Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Railway Construction in Bangladesh
     • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a $400 million loan to Bangladesh for the construction of a 102-kilometer dual gauge railway between Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar. The project aims to promote trade, investment, and tourism, and it is part of the Trans-Asia Railway network, connecting Asia and Europe. The loan agreement was signed in Dhaka, and the new rail link is expected to open this year. The railway is projected to transport 2.9 million passengers annually by 2024.    • Resolution of US-India Trade Disputes: Removal of Duties on US Apples Ensures Market Access for Indian Steel and Aluminum Exports
     • India will remove additional duties on eight US products, including apples, as part of the resolution of six World Trade Organisation disputes between the US and India. The removal of duties will restore market access for Indian steel and aluminum exports to the US. The decision will not negatively impact domestic apple producers and will promote competition in the premium market segment. The import of US apples will compete on a level playing field with other countries, ensuring better quality and prices for consumers. The market share of US apples was taken by other countries due to the imposition of additional retaliatory duties.
   • Government of India Announces Auction of Re-issued Government Securities in 2023
     • The Government of India will conduct an auction to sell re-issued government securities, including 7.06% GS 2028, 7.26% GS 2033, and 7.30% GS 2053. The auctions will be held on June 30, 2023. Non-competitive and competitive bids must be submitted electronically on the Reserve Bank of India Core Banking Solution system. Successful bidders will make payment on July 3, 2023. The securities will be eligible for “When Issued” trading as per RBI guidelines.
   • 7th Round of Commercial Coal Mine Auctions: Bids Opening Soon in New Delhi
     • The 7th round of commercial coal mine auctions began on March 29, 2023, with 103 mines up for sale. The deadline for submitting online and offline Technical Bids is June 27, 2023. The opening of Technical Bids will take place on June 28, 2023, in New Delhi, in the presence of bidders.
   • Funding of Commercial Coal Mines in India: Stakeholder Consultation and Financing Challenges
     • The Ministry of Coal in India organized a stakeholder consultation to promote the funding of commercial coal mines. The event focused on the need for financing in the coal sector, and suggestions were made to facilitate coal mine funding. Coal mine allocatees highlighted the challenges they face in obtaining financial assistance, while banks expressed their willingness to finance coal mines based on project viability. The Nominated Authority proposed enablers such as appointing nodal officers for coal mine financing and formulating detailed business plans before approaching banks for financing.

     • The Indian government has approved capital investment proposals totaling Rs. 56,415 crore for 16 states under the ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2023-24’ scheme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Sickle Cell Anaemia Eradication Mission in Madhya Pradesh.
