New Delhi, November 13, 2023 – In a noteworthy development, India is all set to host the 33rd Conference of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific. This significant event is slated to unfold from November 13 to 16, 2023, within the illustrious confines of the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi. The opening and closing ceremonies will be officiated by the Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala, alongside the Union Ministers of State for the same portfolio, Dr. Sanjeev Balyan and Dr. L Murugan.

The decision to convene this prestigious gathering was cemented during the 90th General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates of the WOAH, held in Paris in May 2023. Anticipation surrounds the conference as it is expected to attract delegates from 36 member countries, including India, as well as senior officers from regional and international organizations. Notably, representatives from the private sector and private veterinary organizations in the region are also poised to participate.

The hosting duties for the conference fall under the purview of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, and the chosen venue is the Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi. This event takes on added significance against the backdrop of the ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. It highlights the pivotal role of scientific expertise in evaluating risks at the human-animal-environment interface. The conference seeks to emphasize the critical need for enhancing resilience and capacity in Veterinary Services to effectively tackle future challenges.

Face-to-face Regional Conferences of this nature offer a unique platform for fostering closer contact, engaging in active dialogue, and conducting meaningful debates among delegates, invited experts, and key regional partners. The week-long event is poised to facilitate valuable discussions and cultivate essential networking relationships.

The timing of the conference is particularly crucial as the global community grapples with the repercussions of the pandemic and endeavors to fortify collaboration in the realm of animal health. The Taj Mahal Hotel, renowned for its grandeur and historical significance, is expected to provide an ideal setting for these significant deliberations.
