Hangzhou, October 3, 2023 – In a thrilling face-off at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou, India secured a remarkable victory against Nepal, securing their place in the semi-finals of the 2023 Asian Games men’s T20I competition. Contrary to expectations, Nepal put up an admirable fight, making this match a memorable one for cricket enthusiasts.

In an eventful game, India won the toss and elected to bat first. Their opening duo, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad, orchestrated a commanding 103-run partnership. Jaiswal, in particular, exhibited aggressive batting from the outset. Gaikwad contributed 25 runs from 23 balls before being dismissed by DS Airee in the 10th over, with the score at 103 runs.

Nepal’s bowlers made a significant comeback during the middle overs, securing the dismissals of Tilak Varma (2) and Jitesh Sharma (5) at low scores. Sompal Kami and Sandeep Lamichhane were instrumental in this resurgence. Jaiswal, however, continued his aggressive play and reached a century in just 48 balls, featuring an impressive eight fours and seven sixes. Unfortunately for India, he was dismissed by Airee immediately after reaching this milestone.

In the latter part of the innings, Rinku Singh caused havoc for Nepal by smashing an explosive 37* off just 15 balls, including four towering sixes. Shivam Dube also made a notable contribution with 25 runs from 19 balls. For Nepal, Dipendra Singh Airee took two wickets, while Rohit Paudel proved to be the most economical bowler, conceding only 26 runs from his three overs. Sandeep Lamichhane and Sompal Kami also managed to take a wicket each.

Now, turning the spotlight to Nepal’s innings, Ravi Bishnoi displayed exceptional bowling prowess by dismissing Kushal Malla (29 runs) and Rohit Paudel (3) in the same over. Dipendra Singh Airee, in a brief but impactful innings, smashed three consecutive sixes against Shivam Dube before being dismissed for 32 runs from 15 balls, courtesy of Bishnoi.

With Nepal needing 75 runs from the final five overs with five wickets in hand, Sundeep Jora’s rapid 29 off 12 balls, which included three sixes, injected some hope into their chase. However, Karan KC’s unbeaten 18 runs were ultimately insufficient to secure a victory for Nepal.

India’s bowlers were the true heroes of the match. Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan both secured three wickets each, while Arshdeep Singh also contributed with three crucial wickets. Sai Kishore pocketed one wicket, further sealing Nepal’s fate.

In conclusion, India’s triumph over Nepal in this high-stakes encounter was a testament to their resilience and skill.
