However, this year’s performance has shattered all previous records and propelled India to new heights.

An Enormous Contingent

The significant contribution of female athletes, who secured 40 medals, accounting for 36% of the total medal tally, is particularly praiseworthy.

The Catalyst Behind Success

Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, commended the remarkable performance of para-athletes. He attributed this success to a combination of factors, including the athletes’ unwavering dedication and the implementation of effective sports policies.

“The performance of para-athletes reflects their commitment and the implementation of appropriate sports policies,” Thakur emphasized. He also discussed two significant programs that have played a substantial role in nurturing India’s sports talent: the Khelo India Scheme and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme. These initiatives have provided essential support to athletes, spanning both grassroots and elite levels. Notably, 8 Khelo India Athletes and 46 TOPS athletes participated in the Games, contributing significantly to India’s impressive medal count.

Thakur also pointed out a substantial increase in the sports budget, which has tripled since 2014. This budget boost has enabled enhanced athlete support in areas like coaching, training, international exposure, nutrition, and infrastructure.

A Glimpse into the Future

The stellar performance of Indian athletes in the Para Asian Games, the Asian Games, and other international sporting events is a testament to India’s rising prominence in the world of sports. As India continues to make its presence felt on the global stage, Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s words at the IOC meeting resonate strongly: India is not only excelling in sports but is also ready to host major events, including the Youth Olympics in 2030 and the Summer Olympics in 2036.
