Global Energy Transitions: Collaborative Actions for Sustainable Future | G20 Presidency Wrap-up

India’s G20 presidency concluded the 4th Energy Transitions Working Group Meeting in Goa. Over 115 delegates from G20 and invitee countries discussed climate change, energy security, and sustainability. Urgent collaborative policy actions are needed to accelerate global energy transitions, aligned with Sustainable Development Goals. The meeting emphasized the significance of affordable and inclusive energy transitions. Hydrogen-related issues and low-cost financing for energy transition were among the key topics. The outcome will be presented to Energy Ministers on July 22. The Indian Presidency led 15 side events and released global studies on advancing energy transitions.

Enhancing Emergency Communication: India’s Cell Broadcast Alert System Testing

The Department of Telecommunications and National Disaster Management Authority will conduct Cell Broadcast Alert System testing to improve emergency communication during disasters in India. The state-of-the-art technology allows critical and time-sensitive messages to reach all mobile devices in designated areas, keeping the public informed during emergencies. Simulated emergency alerts will be sent during testing, labeled as “SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE” to avoid confusion.

New Exchange Rates for Import and Export Goods – Effective July 21, 2023

Exchange Rate Notification No. 54/2023 – Customs (N.T.) issued on 20th July 2023 by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs. It specifies the exchange rates of various foreign currencies into Indian rupees for imported and export goods, effective from 21st July 2023.

All-India CPI Numbers: June 2023 Inflation Report and State Variations

The All-India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural and Rural Labourers increased in June 2023. The rise was mainly due to higher food prices, particularly rice, pulses, milk, meat, vegetables, and fruits. The index varied across states, with Tamilnadu having the highest points and Himachal Pradesh the lowest. Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu experienced the most significant increase, while Jammu & Kashmir witnessed the most substantial decrease. The point-to-point rate of inflation also rose compared to the previous year. The CPI for July 2023 will be released on 18th August 2023.

To achieve this goal, an investment of $192 billion is required, with solar-based mini-grids being the most suitable option for electrification. Skill development and capacity building are also essential for long-term progress. The International Solar Alliance works with governments to promote solar power as a sustainable transition to a carbon-neutral future and aims to unlock $1 trillion in solar investments by 2030.

Ministry of Culture’s Seva Bhoj Scheme: Rs. 466 Lakh GST Collection Reimbursed in 3 Years

Over the past three years, the Ministry of Culture has reimbursed Rs. 466 lakh under the Seva Bhoj Scheme for the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Central Government’s share of Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) paid on raw food items purchased by eligible Charitable/Religious Institutions for distributing free food to the public. The process involves registration, application submission, and fund reimbursement through the Ministry of Culture and the concerned GST Authority. Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Development of North-Eastern Region Shri G Kishan Reddy provided this information in the Rajya Sabha.

Promoting Multilingualism & Cultural Heritage: CCRT’s NEP-2020 Training Programs

Financial Assistance for Veteran Artists: MoU Between Ministry of Culture and Canara Bank

Ministry of Culture and Canara Bank signed an MoU to provide financial assistance to Veteran Artists under the “Scheme for Financial Assistance for Veteran Artists” (formerly known as “Scheme for Pension and Medical Aid to Artists”). The beneficiaries’ master data will be uploaded to an online portal by the Ministry, and Canara Bank will work out quarterly fund requirements based on scheme guidelines. Eligible artists aged 60 and above, with an annual income not exceeding Rs. 48,000/-, can apply through respective authorities. Funds will be released on a monthly basis to beneficiaries via direct transfers. An allocation of Rs. 26.00 crore has been made for this scheme in the year 2023-24.

2788 Scholarships Awarded: Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme Updates 2023

Over the last 5 years, approximately 2788 scholarships have been awarded under the Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme (CTSSS). The scheme aims to provide specialized training in various cultural fields to exceptionally talented children aged 10 to 14 years. Each year, 650 new scholarships are awarded, and the scholarship is renewable until the age of 20 years, with a value of Rs. 3600/- per year, along with tuition fee reimbursement. The Finance Committee of CCRT has approved an enhancement in the scholarship amount and tuition fees under the scheme. The total number of scholarships is not proposed to be increased. Minister Shri G. Kishan Reddy provided this information in the Rajya Sabha.

Ensuring Safety: Sexual Harassment Provisions in Sports Federations – Ministry’s Instructions

Provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, apply to all National Sports Federations (NSFs). Four NSFs reported complaints of sexual harassment. Ministry has issued instructions to NSFs on prevention and redressal of sexual harassment. Measures advised to NSFs include having women coaches, appointing Compliance Officers, and conducting pre-camp sensitization.

India’s Thriving Renewable Energy Sector: 176.49 GW Capacity & Government Initiatives

India has installed 176.49 GW of renewable energy capacity, encompassing solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and geothermal sources. The government has implemented various initiatives to promote renewable energy, including FDI allowance, waiving ISTS charges for solar and wind power, setting trajectories for Renewable Purchase Obligation, creating Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks, and introducing schemes like PM-KUSUM and Solar Rooftop Phase II. They also developed transmission infrastructure, standardized solar deployment, and established a Project Development Cell. The government ensures timely payment to renewable energy generators and has launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
