MATHEMATICS (IX-X) (CODE NO. 041) Session 2023-24
The syllabus for Mathematics has been revised in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework 2005 and the guidelines given in the Focus Group on Teaching of Mathematics. The aim is to equip students with the ability to apply Mathematics in solving day-to-day life problems and to study the subject as a separate discipline. The curriculum includes the study of number systems, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration, statistics, graphs, and coordinate geometry.
The teaching of Mathematics should involve the use of concrete materials, models, patterns, charts, pictures, posters, games, puzzles, and experiments to consolidate and enhance learners’ Mathematical knowledge and skills. The objectives of teaching Mathematics at the secondary stage are to develop basic algebraic skills and drawing skills, think, analyze and articulate logically, and to apply acquired knowledge and skills to solve problems.
Other objectives include developing an interest in Mathematics as a problem-solving tool, developing reverence towards great mathematicians, creating awareness of the need for national integration, environmental protection, observance of small family norms, and elimination of gender biases. Students should also develop the necessary skills to work with modern technological devices and mathematical software and be encouraged to participate in related competitions.
