India:

  • Himachal Pradesh celebrates 75th formation day: On April 15, the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh celebrated its 75th formation day. The state came into existence in 1948 as a Chief Commissioner’s State.
  • Bharat Gaurav Tourist train flagged off: A tourist train named Bharat Gaurav was flagged off to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, an Indian social reformer and politician who is known for his contribution to the Indian Constitution. The train will cover important destinations associated with Ambedkar’s life and work.
  • Vishu and Bengali Noboborsho celebrated: Vishu, the New Year festival of the South Indian state of Kerala, and Bengali Noboborsho, the Bengali New Year, were celebrated in various parts of the country.
  • NISAR satellite to map Himalayas’ seismic zones: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the US have jointly developed the NISAR satellite, which is set to map seismic zones in the Himalayas.
  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal summoned by CBI: Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the Delhi excise policy case. The CBI is investigating alleged irregularities in the policy.

Economy and Corporate:

  • India’s forex reserves rise by USD 6.3 bn: The Reserve Bank of India has announced that India’s foreign exchange reserves have increased by USD 6.3 billion to reach USD 584.75 billion.
  • Textile and apparel exports contracted by 14%: India’s textile and apparel exports have contracted by 14% in the financial year 2022-2023 compared to the previous year. This is due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant disruption of supply chains.
  • G-20 countries discussed debt distress of poor and middle-income countries: The finance ministers and central bank governors of the G-20 countries discussed the debt distress of poor and middle-income countries, as well as the challenges facing the global economy, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

World:

  • Chinese leader Xi Jinping met with Brazilian President to boost ties: Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Beijing to boost ties between the two countries. The meeting was aimed at enhancing economic and trade cooperation.
  • UAE confirms financial support of USD 1 billion to Pakistan: The United Arab Emirates has confirmed financial support of USD 1 billion to Pakistan. The support will be in the form of a deposit with the State Bank of Pakistan to help the country tackle its balance of payments crisis.
  • European Space Agency launches mission to Jupiter’s moons: The European Space Agency has successfully launched its mission to explore Jupiter’s moons. The mission, named JUICE (JUpiter ICy moons Explorer), aims to study the possibility of life on the moons.

Sports:

  • Rs 3,200 crore to be spent on sports facilities in the next 5 years in India under Khelo India campaign: Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has announced that a whopping amount of Rs 3,200 crore will be invested in the development of sports facilities in India over the next five years, as part of the Khelo India campaign. The investment is expected to boost India’s sporting capabilities and encourage more young people to take up sports as a career.
