   • Banking on World Heritage Exhibition: Connecting Youth to Cultural Heritage through Currency Notes
     • The exhibition ‘Banking on World Heritage’ was inaugurated at IGNCA in New Delhi. It displays banknotes from G20 member nations featuring UNESCO world heritage sites. The exhibition aims to connect youth to their heritage through physical currency notes. The Minister of Culture and External Affairs, Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi, emphasized the importance of India’s way, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ for progress and survival. The exhibition highlights the collective effort of G20 countries in preserving heritage. It coincides with India’s 75th year of independence and UNESCO’s 50th year of the World Heritage Convention. The exhibition educates about culture and heritage through banknotes, promoting inclusivity and unity in diversity. The coins showcased also contribute to understanding ancient Indian history. IGNCA organized a panel discussion to complement the exhibition.
   • Tomato Grand Challenge Hackathon: Innovating the Tomato Value Chain for Affordable Prices
     • The Indian government has launched the Tomato Grand Challenge Hackathon to generate innovative ideas for improving the tomato value chain and ensuring affordable prices. Students, researchers, industry professionals, and startups are encouraged to participate. The challenge aims to address various aspects of the tomato value chain, including cultivation, market insights, cultivar selection, processing, packaging, and transportation. The competition is divided into two tracks: one for students and faculty members, and another for industry individuals, startups, and professionals.    • Development of Ayodhya Airport: Completion by September 2023 for Enhanced Connectivity and Cultural Heritage
     • The development of Ayodhya Airport is set to be completed by September 2023. The airport will be able to accommodate A-320/B-737 type of Aircraft and is being built at a cost of Rs.350 crores. The project includes runway extension, an interim terminal building, ATC tower, fire station, car parking, and a new apron. The terminal building will have an area of 6250 sqm and can handle 300 passengers during peak hours. It will be equipped with passenger facilities, sustainability features, and architectural elements representing the upcoming Ram temple. Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia expressed confidence in the project’s contribution to regional development, tourism, and the cultural heritage of Ayodhya.
   • Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project Nears Completion: Dam Construction Achieved till Top Level
     • The Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, being executed by NHPC Limited, has achieved construction of the dam until the top level of Elevation Level (EL) 210 M. More than 90% of the project work has been completed, and the remaining work on radial gates will be done after the monsoon season. The project is expected to start generating electricity by the end of the financial year 2023-24. Construction of the project was initially halted due to local protests but resumed in October 2019 after clearance by the National Green Tribunal.

     • India Post and Canada Post have launched the International Tracked Packet Service (ITPS) to facilitate e-commerce exports. The service, operational from July 01, 2023, aims to support small businesses and promote product exports. India Post already offers this service with 38 partner countries, and Canada will be the 39th. The ITPS rates are economical, starting at Rs 400 for the first 50 gms and Rs 35 for every additional 50 gms, providing affordable shipping solutions for up to 2 kg and volume-based discounts for contractual customers.
   • Sri Lanka Implements 14.2% Electricity Tariff Reduction Starting July 1st
     • The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has approved a 14.2 percent reduction in electricity tariffs starting from July 1st. The reduction will vary across different usage categories, with lower electricity users receiving a 65 percent reduction for consuming 0-30 units per month. The PUCSL has also urged electricity companies to ensure accurate billing for condominium residents based on their tariff categories. The tariff reduction is a response to the availability of cheaper coal imports due to the appreciating Rupee.

     • Retail inflation for industrial workers in May eased to 4.42% from 5.09% in April, mainly due to lower prices of certain food items. Year-on-year inflation for the month was 4.42%, compared to 5.09% the previous month and 6.97% during the corresponding month last year. Food inflation stood at 3.24% in May, down from 4.16% in the previous month and 7.92% in the year-ago period. The All India CPI-IW for May 2023 increased by 0.5 points to 134.7, with the maximum upward pressure coming from the Food & Beverages group.
   • India’s Key Infrastructure Sectors Experience Slowdown with 4.3% Growth in May 2023
     • India’s key infrastructure sectors experienced a slowdown, with a growth rate of 4.3% in May 2023. This decline can be attributed to reduced production in crude oil, natural gas, and electricity. The output growth of these sectors was 4.3% during April-May, compared to 14.3% in the same period last year. The production of crude oil, natural gas, electricity, coal, refinery products, fertilizers, steel, and cement all experienced lower growth rates in May 2023 compared to the previous year.

     • Several Indian youth activists, humanitarians, and entrepreneurs have been named winners of the Diana Awards in the UK.
