INDIAN SPACE POLICY 2023 APPROVED TO INSTITUTIONALIZE PRIVATE SECTOR PARTICIPATION
The Indian government has approved the Indian Space Policy 2023, which seeks to institutionalize private sector participation in the country’s space sector. The new policy aims to enhance domestic capabilities in space, encourage research and development, and promote the commercialization of space-based activities. NEW AMENDMENT TO IT RULES RELEASED TO REGULATE ONLINE REAL MONEY GAMES
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has released an amendment to the IT Rules 2021, aimed at regulating online real money games. The amendment requires online gaming platforms to disclose the probability of winning, the expected return to the player, and other details of the game rules and mechanism. It also mandates the appointment of a grievance officer to address player complaints, and sets limits on the amount of money that can be deposited or withdrawn by players.
CEASEFIRE AGREEMENTS WITH NAGA GROUPS EXTENDED
The Indian government has extended ceasefire agreements with three Naga groups – the National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Neopao Konyak/Kitovi, National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Reformation, and National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Khango, for a further period of one year. The ceasefire agreements aim to provide a conducive environment for peace talks with the Naga groups, which have been demanding a separate state for several decades.
PRE-DRAFT OF NATIONAL CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK FOR SCHOOL EDUCATION RELEASED
The Ministry of Education has released a “pre-draft” version of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education. The new framework aims to provide a broad-based, multidisciplinary, and flexible curriculum that is in tune with the needs of the 21st century. It emphasizes the development of critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills, and promotes holistic education that takes into account the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of students.
MEDIA ADVISED TO REFRAIN FROM ADVERTISING ONLINE BETTING PLATFORMS
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has advised media to refrain from transmitting advertisements of online betting platforms. The move comes amid concerns over the increasing prevalence of online gambling and the potential harm it can cause, especially among vulnerable sections of society. The ministry has also urged state governments to take necessary measures to curb the spread of online gambling.
COMMITTEE FORMED TO REVIEW PENSION SYSTEM FOR GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES
The Finance Ministry has notified the formation of a committee to review the pension system for government employees. The committee will examine the feasibility of implementing an alternative pension system for new recruits, which is based on contributions and returns, rather than a defined benefit system. It will also look into ways of reducing the pension liability of the government, and improving the sustainability and efficiency of the pension system.
ENROLMENTS UNDER NPS, APY CROSS 1.35 CRORE MARGIN
Total enrolments under various schemes of the National Pension System (NPS) and the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) have crossed the 1.35 crore margin during the financial year 2022-23. The NPS and APY are voluntary, contributory, and defined contribution pension schemes, which aim to provide pension coverage to all citizens, especially those in the unorganized sector. The schemes offer a range of investment options and tax benefits, and are managed by professional fund managers.
RBI TO START PORTAL TO HELP TRACE UNCLAIMED DEPOSITS
The Reserve Bank of India has decided to start a portal to help in tracing unclaimed deposits. The portal will be operational from May 1, 2023, and will allow depositors to search for their unclaimed deposits in banks and other financial institutions.
In addition, the RBI has expanded the scope of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) by allowing pre-approved credit lines using UPI. This move is expected to make it easier for small businesses and individuals to access credit.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Vietnam have signed a declaration to begin talks on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The CEPA is expected to enhance trade and investment ties between the two countries.
