New Delhi, April 26, 2024: The Indian Historical Records Commission (IHRC), the apex body for archival matters in India, has adopted a new logo and motto to visually represent its mission and values.
A Symbol of History and Preservation
Established in 1919, the IHRC advises the Government of India on managing and using historical records for research. The online competition launched in 2023 on the MyGov portal received 436 entries for logo and motto designs.
The winning entry, designed by Shri Shaurya Pratap Singh (Delhi), features a logo with pages shaped like lotus petals symbolizing the IHRC’s role as a central institution for preserving historical records. The Sarnath pillar in the center represents India’s rich past, and the brown color scheme reflects the organization’s dedication to safeguarding historical documents.
The accompanying motto, “Where history is preserved for the future,” encapsulates the IHRC’s core function. The commission works to identify, collect, catalog, and maintain historical documents, manuscripts, and other sources of information, ensuring valuable historical knowledge is accessible to current and future generations.
Recognition for Multiple Entries
While Singh’s design was chosen for the official logo and motto, four entries each for logo and motto received consolation prizes of Rs. 5,000/- each. These entries were submitted by:
- Logo: Ms. Manaswee Chandwaskar (Indore, Madhya Pradesh), Ms. Deepika Mandal (Bengaluru, Karnataka), Ms. Nonanda Verma (Jodhpur, Rajasthan), Ms. Shivanshi Chauhan (Chuttmalpur, Uttarakhand)
- Motto: Ms. Jasneet Kaur (SAS Nagar, Punjab), Naresh Agrawal (Indore, Madhya Pradesh), Shri Raju Chatterjee (Kolkata, West Bengal), Shri Rinkal (Bharuch, Gujarat)
The winning entry receives a prize of Rs. 50,000/-.
The IHRC’s new logo and motto serve as a powerful symbol of its commitment to preserving India’s rich history for generations to come.
