Indian-Railways (IR) continues to break records in terms of freight loading, with 126.46 MT of goods loaded in April 2023 alone. This represents an increase of 3.5% over the figures achieved in April 2022, with an incremental loading of 4.25 MT. Furthermore, the freight revenue in April 2023 has increased to Rs 13,893 Cr., which is a 7% growth compared to the same period last year.

Coal, Iron Ore, and Cement Among the Top Commodities Loaded by IR

Of the total freight loaded in April 2023, coal accounted for 62.39 MT, while iron ore and cement amounted to 14.49 MT and 12.60 MT, respectively. Other goods, containers, steel, food grains, mineral oil, and fertilizers also contributed significantly to the overall freight-loading. This indicates that IR is able to handle a wide variety of commodities efficiently.
