University of Kashmir to Host Youth 20 Consultation Meeting on May 11
The University of Kashmir will host the Youth 20 consultation meeting on May 11, under the aegis of India’s G20 Presidency. The theme of the meeting is “Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a Way of Life.” The meeting will provide a platform for open discussions, presentations, and interactive sessions to address the challenges faced by young people and formulate a roadmap for their development. A communiqué will be prepared based on the inputs from these discussions as an outcome document for the Youth 20 Summit 2023. The University has constituted several committees to oversee arrangements and preparedness for the event, which will be attended by dignitaries from Central Government, UT administration, youth leaders from G20 Countries, and national and international speakers. The University has undertaken enormous research on the subject of climate change and has been designated as a Centre of Excellence in Glacial Studies in the Western Himalayas by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
National-Level Stakeholder Consultation Held for Skill Development of Persons with Disabilities
On May 4th, 2023, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment held a National-Level Stakeholder Consultation under National Action Plan (NAP) for Skill Development of Persons with Disabilities in New Delhi. The aim of the event was to get strategic inputs from stakeholders on the NAP scheme and formulate sustainable models of skilling and employment for PwDs. Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, IAS, Secretary, DEPwD, chaired the event, which included presentations on the progress of the NAP scheme and discussions on accessible workplaces and inclusive employer practices. The consultation proved to be a one-of-a-kind opportunity for PwDs as winners of Abilympics, trainees from Nagaland, and others shared their skilling and employment journey with stakeholders. The consultation created a path for economic empowerment for Persons with Disabilities.
India-UAE CEPA leads to 20% growth in bilateral trade, says DPIIT Secretary
The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and the UAE, negotiated in just 88 days, has led to a 20% increase in bilateral trade since it came into force, according to Sh. Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). Speaking at an event commemorating the CEPA’s first anniversary, Singh highlighted its significance as a turning point in bilateral economic relations. He also invited top UAE investors to explore new sectors for investment in India, particularly renewables and digital.
Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar launches Phase-III of Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana and releases Standard Treatment Guidelines for Sickle Cell Anemia Disease
Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, has launched the third phase of Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana (TBSY) of the Health Ministry in India. The program is aimed at screening, creating awareness, and increasing treatment facilities to fight blood-related disorders such as Thalassemia and sickle cell anemia. The Coal India CSR-funded Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) program has successfully completed 356 bone marrow transplants for Thalassemia patients across ten empaneled hospitals in India during the first two phases. The third phase of the program will continue to provide financial assistance for a package cost of 10 lakhs per HSCT, directly transferred from CIL to the institutions performing HSCT.

NeGD Conducts 36th CISO Deep-Dive Training Programme for Cyber Surakshit Bharat Initiative
The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) organized the 36th CISO Deep-Dive training programme from 8th-12th May 2023 for designated CISOs from Central and State/UT Governments and other technical officials. The programme is a part of the Cyber Surakshit Bharat initiative launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to combat cyber-crime and increase awareness about cyber security. The training aims to educate CISOs on cyber-attacks and the latest technologies to safeguard against them, as well as provide a holistic view of legal provisions and formulate policies in the domain of cyber security. The CISO training is a first-of-its-kind partnership between the Government and industry consortium under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, with 36 batches conducted since June 2018 for over 1,419 CISOs and IT officials.

New Biocompatible Drug Delivery System and Anti-Inflammatory Drugs Show Potential in Treating Rheumatoid Arthritis
Researchers at the Institute of Nano Science and Technology have developed a new biocompatible therapeutic nano-micelle drug delivery system combined with anti-inflammatory drugs that may help to cure rheumatoid arthritis. The system, which uses the FDA-approved drug 9-aminoacridine and the natural compound caffeic acid conjugated to nano-micelles, showed enhanced potential to inhibit joint damage and cartilage degradation in experimental trials. The drug delivery system has potential for long-term relief and is simple, cost-effective, and safe.
MoHUA and MoR jointly ink MoU with JICA for Project SMART
MoHUA and MoR sign MoU with JICA for ‘Project-SMART’ to develop surrounding areas of Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Stations. The project aims to enhance accessibility and convenience for commuters and promote economic activities in the vicinity of station areas. The MoU is signed for four out of twelve stations on the route – Sabarmati, Surat, Virar, and Thane. Seminars and field visits will be organized by MoHUA, Govts. of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and JICA to prepare ‘Station Area Development Plans’ and a model handbook for Transit Oriented Development and Station Area Development.
