New Delhi, 17th October 2023 – The ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh‘ (MMMD) campaign, a nationwide initiative, is reaching its grand finale with the Amrit Kalash Yatras spanning the length and breadth of India. This monumental campaign, launched on August 9, 2023, is dedicated to honoring the brave souls known as ‘Veers’ who made the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation. It also marks the concluding chapter of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ a historic event that commenced on March 12, 2021, and saw massive public engagement.

In a collective endeavor, several ministries, state governments, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Zonal Cultural Centers, Central Armed Police Forces, Indian Post, Miety, and Coal, have united for the massive undertaking of collecting soil from households in villages and blocks across India. This remarkable collaboration signifies their unwavering commitment to community service and the noble cause of nation-building.
The Ministry of Culture’s zonal culture centers have played a pivotal role in organizing cultural programs in rural areas across the nation, spreading awareness about the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign and ensuring its outreach. Already, over 4419 blocks have successfully executed the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ program, and the response from the masses has been nothing short of overwhelming.
Honoring the Bravehearts
The nationwide campaign is a tribute to the courageous individuals who selflessly dedicated their lives to our country. These ‘Veers’ were unwavering in their commitment to the cause of freedom, and their sacrifice will forever be etched in the annals of our history. The initial phase of the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign has been a resounding success, with extensive outreach and immense public participation. To date, more than 233,000 Shilaphalakams have been erected across 36 states and union territories.
A remarkable 40 million selfies, featuring the Panch Pran pledge, have been uploaded to the campaign’s website, showcasing the public’s overwhelming support. Additionally, over 200,000 felicitation programs have been held nationwide, honoring our Bravehearts. Under the Vasudha Vandan theme, a staggering 236 million indigenous saplings have been planted, and 263,000 Amrit Vatikas have been established.
Culmination at Kartavya Path
The grand climax of the ‘Amrit Kalash Yatras’ is set to take place on the 30th and 31st of October, 2023, at Kartavya Path. During this momentous event, a symbolic ‘Kalash,’ representing the unity in diversity of our great nation, will be filled with soil collected from every nook and cranny of India. This ‘Kalash’ will then be ceremoniously placed in the ‘Amrit Vatika’ and ‘Amrit Mahotsav Memorial,’ creating a tangible legacy to commemorate the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.’
