1.1 Odisha Train Accident: Indian Railways’ Special Helpline for Deceased’s Kin and Victims

A team of senior officers is available around the clock to provide information and coordinate with the relevant authorities. The helpline aims to offer support and accurate details during this difficult time. The Ministry of Railways has ensured uninterrupted service and timely disbursement of compensation for the affected individuals. Restoration work is progressing rapidly, and ministers have expressed confidence in the railway system. A comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
1.2 Startup20’s Third Meeting in Goa Sets the Stage for Global Startup Collaboration
The Startup20 Engagement Group of the G20 began its third meeting in Goa with high energy and determination. The day included the presentation of the Policy Communiqué and discussions on startup innovation and collaboration. Dr. Chintan Vaishnav emphasized the importance of the Communiqué and called for collective efforts to shape the future of the global startup ecosystem.
Task Forces presented their recommendations, and closed-door country huddles and the India Ecosystem Meeting focused on developing country positions and implementing the Communiqué. The afternoon featured leadership addresses and a panel discussion on startups building an inclusive and responsible internet ecosystem. Over 250 national and international delegates attended, and 40+ startups showcased their products.
1.3 Indian Navy’s Green Initiatives: Solar Power, Emissions Reduction, Bio-Remedial Agents, and More
Indian Navy has undertaken various green initiatives to protect the environment. They have commissioned solar power plants with a cumulative capacity of 15.87MW and are in the process of executing additional 16MW capacity of solar power. They have also installed a retrofit device for diesel engine emissions reduction, which has shown a 70% reduction in emissions. The Navy has developed eco-friendly marine bio-remedial agents to combat oil spills and has operationalized a 100KW AC plant based on carbon dioxide as a natural refrigerant.
They are exploring the use of hydrogen as an alternate fuel source and have conducted successful trials of hydrogen aspirated diesel engines. Additionally, they have made progress in using used cooking oil-based biodiesel to reduce vehicular emissions. The Indian Navy is committed to pursuing these green initiatives to reduce their carbon footprint and ensure a greener future for the next generations.
1.4 G20 India Presidency: Strengthening Global Health and Pandemic Preparedness
The 3rd G20 Health Working Group Meeting took place in Hyderabad, Telangana, under the G20 India Presidency. Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, emphasized the need to integrate and strengthen One Health-based surveillance systems in order to address the ongoing threat of pandemics. She also highlighted the importance of partnerships, the availability of medical countermeasures, and India’s proposal for a Global initiative on Digital Health.
Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism, emphasized India’s commitment to universal healthcare and its role as the “Pharmacy of the World.” Prof S. P. Singh Baghel stressed the importance of a sustainable health system for a sustainable economy and the need for continuous interventions in the health sector at regional, national, and global levels. Various officials and representatives from G20 member countries, international organizations, and partner countries were present at the meeting.
1.5 Kishtwar: North India’s Power Hub with 6,000 MW Generation Potential and Development Initiatives
Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir is set to become a major power hub in North India, generating around 6,000 MW of power from ongoing projects. The Union Minister of State, Dr. Jitendra Singh, reviewed the progress of hydroelectric power projects in Kishtwar and Doda districts. The surplus power will be used not only in the region but also by other states. The minister emphasized the untapped natural resources in the Chenab region and promised job reservations for locals.
Several major projects are underway, including Pakal Dul, Kiru, Kwar, and Kirthai II hydroelectric projects. These projects will improve the power supply and provide opportunities for local residents. The development of infrastructure, such as roads, airports, hospitals, and educational institutions, has also taken place in the region. The minister highlighted the Modi government’s focus on bridging the development gap between different regions in the country and empowering the needy through various welfare schemes. Kishtwar and other similar regions are expected to play a crucial role in India’s progress as a leading nation by its 100th year of independence in 2047.

Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry successfully concluded a five-day trade mission to India. The mission involved productive meetings and discussions with Indian business associations in New Delhi and Mumbai. The main outcomes included the intention to organize a high-level trade delegation visit to Sharjah and the exploration of joint investment projects. Both sides expressed a desire to enhance cooperation, trade exchange, and explore new markets. 2.3 UAE and India Strengthen Strategic Relations at BRICS Meeting
UAE and India discussed strategic relations and cooperation at a BRICS meeting in South Africa. They focused on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and ways to enhance collaboration in energy, investment, and technology. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments, expressing their commitment to a strong partnership and a better future.
2.4 India Urges G20 Countries to Tackle Global Vaccine Inequity: Initiatives and Collaborative Efforts

G20 nations gathered at Startup20’s 3rd meeting in Goa to boost global startup ecosystem growth. The meeting concluded with a call for a $1 trillion commitment to startups by 2030. Key action points include defining startups, creating support networks, improving access to capital, and promoting inclusion. Dr. Chintan Vaishnav emphasized unity and proposed the allocation of $1 trillion for the startup ecosystem. The delegates expressed enthusiasm and commitment to realizing the goals. The meeting also expressed condolences for a train accident in Odisha. The next summit is scheduled for July in Gurugram.
3.2 Empowering Startups: Launch of Handholding Support for National Startup Award Winners and Finalists
TL;DR: Handholding support was launched to assist startups with investor pitching, government connections, corporate and unicorn engagements, brand showcase, and international market access. The support was initiated for the winners and finalists of the National Startup Awards 2022. The program includes virtual and physical sessions, delegations, showcases, and specialized support to help startups overcome challenges and achieve success. 3.3 Wheat Procurement Exceeds Last Year, Benefiting Farmers: Latest Agricultural Updates
Wheat procurement in the current season has exceeded last year’s total, benefiting 21.27 lakh farmers. The agriculture sector’s performance and increased production have contributed to this success. Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana have made significant contributions to procurement. The government’s relaxation in quality specifications, opening of procurement centers, and engagement of cooperative societies and Gram Panchayats have supported the process. Rice procurement is also progressing well. The country has ample stocks of wheat and rice to meet its food grain requirements. The third advance estimates predict a foodgrain production of 3305.34 lakh tonnes for the current agricultural year.
3.4 May 2023 GST Collection: Revenues Rise by 12% to Rs 1.57 Lakh Crore
GST collection in May 2023 increased by 12% compared to the same month last year, with higher revenues from imports and domestic transactions. The total revenue collected was Rs 1.57 lakh crore, including CGST, SGST, IGST, and cess. The government settled amounts to CGST and SGST from IGST, resulting in a total revenue of Rs 63,780 crore for CGST and Rs 65,597 crore for SGST. The implementation of GST has simplified compliance and created a unified tax system across India. The GST was initially proposed in 2000 and has streamlined the indirect taxation system, improving transparency and achieving the goal of One Nation, One Tax.

4.1 Khelo India University Games 2022 Concludes in Varanasi with Punjab University as Winners
Curtains closed on the Khelo India University Games 2022 in Varanasi. Punjab University emerged as the winner with 69 medals. The event was praised as the best ever by Shri Anurag Singh Thakur. The ceremony paid tribute to the victims of a recent rail accident in Odisha. The games involved over 4000 athletes from 200 universities and concluded successfully, despite concerns about the summer heat.
